What Sparky’s Magic Piano have put out is a strong pop record with lyrics that paint a picture and music that so unique, it instantly becomes an earworm that is hard to get rid of.
The album is packed with songs that are worthy of a single release. ‘Tiny Shiny Shoes’ gets the album started, with a slow introduction into what the duo is about – angelic vocals, great lyrics and good music that carries picks up and drops off with pacing that makes it a fantastic listen time and time again. Marion Turnbull on vocals does an amazing job of delivering each lyric just as desired, and Oli Bartlett’s music meshes everything together perfectly.
As the album plays, with each song you can hear Sparky’s Magic Piano’s signature sound and every element about what makes this album great. No note or lyric is needless, there is no trimming in any song, it’s never too much or too little – they’ve made something that really works, a whole album where each song deserves listening to again and again. Without changing their unique sound, they change styles quite often which makes every song feel like a refreshing listen – each pop tune to dance to makes you appreciate each slower paced song to really relish in Turnbull’s vocals. Changing it up at the right moments is what this album does best, giving us everything we want from pop music but without overloading the listener.
