Shaun Gavan has built a career across some of British music’s most influential scenes, but his next release takes him into more personal territory. On April 25th, 2026, he will release I Dance Alone, a concept album that shifts the focus from club-driven production to deeply reflective songwriting. Released by Sear Independent, the record presents Gavan as an artist looking both backward at his roots and forward toward a new creative phase.

Best known for his work in UK house, garage and UKG, Gavan played a role in shaping dance music culture, including co-producing the Dreem Teem remix of Amira’s My Desire. His career has also included collaborations with artists such as Marshall Jefferson and David Morales, along with performances during the early rave era. That background makes I Dance Alone a notable departure, as it centers on his identity as a guitarist and storyteller rather than a dance-floor architect.

The album is structured as one continuous musical composition and explores themes of love, loss, acceptance, strength and rebirth. Its musical language blends the emotional pull of a chamber orchestra with the energy of blues-infused stadium rock, giving it a dramatic and immersive quality. Produced by Gavan with Mike Patto and Toni Economides, the project was recorded at The Farm House, Cagepond Studios and Bamboo Music in London.

Mike Patto’s work on piano, Hammond and synths adds another layer to the album’s cinematic sound, while Gavan’s vocals and multi-instrumental performances remain central throughout. The record is also informed by major life events, including bereavement, fatherhood and his battle with cancer in 2018. Taken together, those experiences make I Dance Alone a powerful statement from an artist whose latest work is defined by honesty, depth and resilience.
