The next epoch of animation projects begins with Gary Louca’s foray into the independent sphere with ‘The Spirit of Toronto’. A cross-temporal X-part series, it follows a man’s journey across the ages, from Ancient China to the Wild West.
Louca has adopted a grassroots production model for the show, a move that has been made possible due to the recent Netflix downsizing of their animation team. Serving as both showrunner and co-writer/producer of the soundtrack, Louca has crafted a unique soundscape of eclectic genres and styles.
This is exemplified by the show’s first single, ‘Memories’, a pop classical crossover ballad featuring Louca and operatic duo Trovatori. The visuals of ‘The Spirit of Toronto’ have been brought to life with a combination of 2D and 3D animation, spearheaded by renowned illustrator Thayen Rich.
Rich’s portfolio is as impressive as it is expansive, including major commercial and entertainment projects such as Hollywood films Triangle, Creep, and The Wedding Date.
The Spirit of Toronto has arrived, ushering in a new wave of independent production that is set to captivate audiences around the globe. With the first episode now available to view for free on YouTube, viewers can now witness the marvel of Louca’s vision, and be awed by the magic of independent artistry.
