Hollow Coves is an Australian folk duo comprised of the talents Matt Carins and Ryan Henderson. Following in the footsteps of their indie folk contemporaries such as Ben Howard and Paper Kites, Hollow Coves was formed in 2013 out of a love for acoustic music and travelling the world. Since then they have released a collection of EPs, singles and a debut album titled “Moments”, all of this groundwork has turned them into somewhat of a sensation. As it stands today they are only building, having amassed over six million monthly listens on Spotify, crafting their sound with producers such as Chris Bond.

In 2021, they shared their EP ‘Blessings’. Written and recorded in their home studio on the Gold Coast, the EP came together during a time where togetherness felt far away. Ryan and Matt turned inward, finding truths and stories in their respective pasts, and putting them to song.

This year they have returned with their new single, “Letting Go”. Starting off with dreamy acoustic guitar, the duo deliver their iconic cloudy, layered vocals which set the tone for the song, establishing it as a sentimental anthem. The instrumental is then bolstered with an excellently produced collage of shuffling acoustic drums, warm piano and reserved bass line, all coming together to deliver a throwback – analog style sound.

The lyrics themselves explore the sensation of releasing yourself from the troubles of the world, with the main motif set on the idea of homecoming. Hollow Coves had this to say on how their lyrics should be perceived on their new track:

“The song is all about letting go and moving on into a new season of life…. I feel like it’s so easy to get caught up in the feeling of being trapped when everything is going wrong and thinking nothing will ever change. A small shift in your mind or a change of space like moving back to your hometown where you can be vulnerable with the people that actually care about you.”

The song acts almost as a cleansing changing of the seasons, a soon to be autumnal favorite in playlists across the country.

At this moment it’s unclear whether this and previous single “Harder To Fake It” are a part of an album roll out; nothing has been announced, but to stay up to date with the latest be sure to follow the Hollow Coves social media below.
