LA-based downtempo wizard Tristan De Liège has teamed up with exceptional jazz quartet Jambal for their new single, ‘Collisions of Light’, released on the 1st of September via Tristan De Liège X Jambal Music. Evoking images of artists like St Germain, Arms and Sleepers, Azymuth, and Ezra Collective, it is the second release from their forthcoming album Enterprises of Great Pith and Moment. Their previous collaboration ‘Uncertainties’ was featured in the State Of Jazz Spotify editorial playlist and also received support from the UK National radio station Jazz FM with John Osborne.
Tristan De Liege is no stranger to collaboration and has previously released joint projects with violinist Gregory Allison (A Light for Dark Moments), and Benjamin Hill with whom he makes up the duo “Thoma”. Jambal are an up and coming dynamic jazz band whose sound is comprised of everything from vibraphones to flugelhorns, drums to double bass. They have opened for the revered Portico Quartet and continue to grow as a name in the modern jazz world.
This new single carries on Tristan and Jambal’s cinematic sound, this time taking on a more understated and ethereal tone. The track showcases a mastery of moody string sections, jazz guitar arpeggios and swooning horn sections. The song merges the progressive production of De Liege and the more traditional jazz quartet shape of Jambal, crafting a unique sound that has already caught the attention of CLASH Magazine. The full album is expected to release later on this month, with Tristan De Liege stating that the collaboration has “been a really special project of self-discovery and interesting challenges.” Together these artists are pushing themselves to the forefront of modern day jazz fusion, finding themselves on playlists among the likes of Kiefer, Yussef Dayes and Sam Gendel.
