Quinny bring us a retrospective from the vaults and have to say with the track Rumours we really enjoyed our introduction to this artist. I really like the ironic, pathos ridden ‘It’s not even your birthday’, and have played the video both the live version and the regular version and it has made me want to know more. These give you a really nice check in point where you find Quinny endearing world from a video that has the actor Richard Wilson in it to numerous other Christmas tracks along with other retrospectives. Quinny compare himself with Ezra Furman, Phoebe Bridgers and The Shins which is a good fair comparison and coincidentally also some of our favourite bands and artists so now wonder we kind for fell for this guy.
So we thought we would have a quick chat and find out some nuggets that you can tell you friends , so where do you guys want to start?
‘My first tour was of America in 2013 when I played around 13 shows in Massachusetts, Nashville and Missouri. Through my brother, I was introduced to British acting legend Richard Wilson (known for his roles in BBC’s ‘One Foot in the Grave’, ‘Merlin’ and ‘Tutti Frutti’) who then starred in the music video for my festive tune ‘Christmas Gear’, released in December 2019. Not long after arriving in Melbourne, my song ‘Found & Lost’ (featured on the EP) won the 2020 Darebin Songwriters’ People’s Choice Award, receiving local support and radio play.‘It’s Not Even Your Birthday’ was used as the key track in Joseph Lynn’s ‘Mint Choc Chip’ starring Tom Meeten (‘The Mighty Boosh’ & Noel Fieldings ‘Luxury Comedy’) which went on to win awards at New Renaissance Film Festival and Apex Film Awards. Alongside this, Martin and I have a comedy rap project called Jimmy Lit which will be releasing a 15 minute album on my birthday (25 July). I’ll add that to the list of links. It’s not related to my Quinny material, but it definitely is part of my artistic output!’ Explains Peter Quinn.
